SUBJECTIVE RESPONSE

I feel culturally linked to my relatives. I hadn't tried to connect with them about painting. All I had was an interest in this project and I wanted the hall to be the first place to hang them. I wanted to do it for my mother because she started all this copying stuff. So we're right back to the mother project again.

Yeah.

So at the reunion I had my audio recorder handy. Every time I saw someone in front of the paintings I rushed over.

We can't all have everything and I think if this is your painting you've gotgood artistic...

Talent, yeah.

I don't know. I know that the year I got the most points at the school fair which gave me a free week in Olds at the College.

Oh. Did it?

Yeah. Most of my points I won through artistic school work like handwriting and painting and drawing and things like that.

Well, I told Mom that when a person makes a fresh copy there's an aliveness...

They put their own feelings in it.

...an aliveness in it. And I find that in her copy has some life in it.

You know I think she could be an excellent artist if she had the time to do anything and I'm hoping one day she will really take it up seriously. She intends to.

Yeah.

When I was out there that time she was showing me how to mix oils 'cause I had no idea what to do. I wanted to get started long before but I didn't know how to get started, even. So she showed me how to mix a few oils 'n when I was struggling along trying to do my first one, she brought out a painting that she had started. She had a kind of a misty Indian head painted up on the top corner. It was nice.

I don't know if she ever finished it or not .

Oh.

She did a good job.
