"Cape Dorset", silkscreen on aluminum, 2004

... As the mediated image has increasingly become the primary experience of viewing art, traditional issues of surface/materials, representation and perception remain of abiding interest to me. The gulf between that visceral experience and a secondary photographic representation of a work leads me to create pieces that seek that primary interaction, acknowledging the presence and movement of the viewer in front of the piece to animate the play of light across the surface. Using aluminum as a printing/drawing material encourages this constantly shifting perspective.
